Today I found another wonderful resoure for my LDS friends. It is a site owned by Deseret Book that has a fairly good size video repository. It's billed as "a safer place to watch your online videos".
Going through the home page I found several cool videos that I hadn't see before. They also allow you to link to the videos or even add them to you blog. Here is a sample below:

Legos and the Book of Mormon?

So I was surfing the internet and I found a very cool site that makes books that tell stories about the Book of Mormon using Legos for the illustrations. I am a fan of both Legos and the Book of Mormon so I thought it was clever. For those of you interested here are the links:

Subbing Deacons Quorum
Today I had the opportunity to teach the Deacons. I had 9 kids and I was in there alone. At first, I was concerned how it would go, but to my surprise, it went very well. We were talking about the responsibilities of a deacon and covered the basics. Then, I felt like I needed to explain more about the fast offerings. Not what they should do but what happens with them.
I explained that there were people within our ward that had struggles with buying food, paying rent and bills. I also explained that the money the Bishop collects from fast offerings is what helps pay for those peoples needs, then I told the kids that fast offerings can easily be all used up every month and that was why it was so important that they go each month to collect, if they didn't do there duty, it could result in the Bishop not having the money he needs to take care of the families in our ward.
I wish I could share the expression on their faces when I went through the whole cycle. I think those boys have had many lessons on fast offerings, but I am not sure how many of them put the whole thing together.
I guess, my point is, that I think sometimes we listen to lessons or even teach lessons and sometimes sharing or explaining how everything works together is one of the best ways to help people put all the pieces together. Never miss an opportunity to link gospel topics together...as it is not a bunch of individual principles but a plan that only works when it is all put together.

The Atonement
I think there are experiences in life that are so heavy our very soul buckles under the weight they place on us. I think that there are times when despair encompasses our very being and we see no way to overcome and remove ourselves from it jaws. We can no longer see or feel hope...just endless sadness.
There are going to be times that we all go through that will challenge us to the very core, a point at which we must decide whether or not we truly believe what we claim. Trials that require us to anchor ourselves to the gospel we claim to live and worship. It is then that we must be able to look back and see our Savior kneeling in that lonely olive grove, crying in the agony of sin. It is not to view the suffering or the task at hand, but to look deep into his eyes and see the love he carries for each and every one of us. To see the tears on his face, that say I do this for you.
I believe even in his agony, he would look into our faces and say, "Do not weep...know that you are that important and someday like you I will over come."
There is no way to not feel the emotions, pain or loss during traumatizing experiences in our life, but I believe that if we could reflect for just a moment we would see a loving Savior and hear the words, "Do not weep, know that you are that important and someday like Me, you will overcome."
We are not alone in our trials.

A Brand New Year: MP3s and Sheet Music
I posted a blog a couple days ago about the church's new website A Brand New Year. I was going through the site and found that you can freely download the sheet music for the songs that correspond to the music in the videos. How cool is that!
Download the sheet music on the listen page here.
If you haven't heard about the presentation, I encourage you to talk to your ward and stake leaders to plan a fireside or devotional to watch the entire presentations.
In addition to the site, the church is publishing articles in the New Era each month with stories that represent examples of the believers, this years mutual theme.

New LDS Youth Site and Tools for A Brand New Year
Just a little while back, I mentioned that my daughter and I had the opportunity to go the the Conference Center and be part of a recording for this year's mutual theme. Well the kickoff has begun. The church has the new site and materials posted at:
A Brand New Year
If you haven't had a chance to take a look at it, you should. There are several mp3's to download as well as videos and other items to be examples of the believers. They even have LDS widgets that can be added to your facebook and myspace pages.
Enjoy.

Precious Gems...
I found a couple out of print books on the Google book search. I actually own hard copies of both. They are referred to every once in a while in General Conference. Both books are written by Parley P.Pratt. The first was the original missionary handbook produced by the church. The second is a very enlightening book that is about the priesthood. I encourage you to read them both...and now you can do it for free online.
A Voice of Warning, Parley P. Pratt
Key To Theology, Parley P. Pratt
As these books are out of print, I think it is so very cool that they have them available for free on the internet. They are out of copyright so you can actually print your own. How cool is that?
Enjoy.
